TASKS

Programme of in-house English language classes to meet the varying learning needs of Client’s non-native English speakers.
Classes for small groups (typically 2 to 3 people) or individual lessons are required at different levels of proficiency from level A2, which may include some or all of the following:
• fluency- and confidence-building lessons for staff who have a reasonable or good level of English but are not used to working in an English-speaking environment,
• refresher classes for staff who reached a good level of English in the past but may not have used English for several years,
• specific classes in “business English” and in written English (usually with an emphasis on technical writing),
• grammar improvement lessons,
• exam preparation courses for the Cambridge General English Certificates up to and including the Certificate in Proficiency, and the specialist Business English and Financial English Certificates,
• individual lessons to correct specific English language problems.

Classes should be organised on a semester basis where possible, but it is important to note that, unlike a language school, provision of classes is “demand-led” and it is the teaching Contractor’s responsibility to set up the class groups and schedule according to the nature of the overall group of students. Flexibility is also required to assimilate new students into existing classes throughout the year.

Diagnostic assessment of level and needs
All staff already have at least a working knowledge of English when they join Client and their needs for improvement vary quite considerably. Each staff member wishing to begin English lessons therefore needs to have his/her current level of English and specific learning needs assessed. Such assessments are to be carried out at Client by the English teacher as a “pre-enrolment” lesson.

Advice and individual learning plans using external (including residential intensive) English courses
Occasionally a staff member needs to make a significant improvement very quickly and an individual learning plan combining external and in-house lessons is required. In such cases, the English teacher will be consulted for advice on external courses available and will be requested to develop an individual learning plan in conjunction with the student and Client Personnel Division.

WORK PERFORMANCE AND PLANNING
• Only students authorised and referred to the teaching Contractor by the Client Personnel Division may attend lessons. The Personnel Division authorises the number of weekly teaching hours on a semester basis twice per year – any increase in the number of teaching hours in a week must be agreed with the Personnel Division in advance.
• Lessons are a mixture of 45-minute, 60-minute and 90-minute lessons.
• Classes usually take place during Client normal working hours (08:30h to 17:15h Monday-Thursday, 08:30h to 16:00h Friday), so inevitably students occasionally have to cancel their attendance at short notice due to work requirements. Flexibility to re-schedule the weekly timetable and/or to work with students who may have fallen out of step with class progress is therefore required.
• In addition to English, Client has in-house lessons in French and German, and provides two classrooms in its HQ to be shared among the lessons. In practice, one classroom is shared between English and French classes, as German lessons need a classroom on an almost full-time basis.
• Client provides a PC with internet access and whiteboards in the classrooms, and some language dictionaries are also available. The Contractor is responsible for providing all other materials.
• The Contractor will be responsible for managing the teaching timetable, setting class times in co-operation with the students and with the other two language teachers for availability of a classroom.
• The Contractor will also be responsible for maintaining records of students attending classes, and for reporting student attendance and progress to the Personnel Division as required.
